When your skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays (UV) rays, a natural process begins to take place. Melanocytes are special cells in your epidermis, which is the outermost layer of your skin, and when exposed to UVB (shorter UV rays), these melanocytes produce the pigment melanin, which is then absorbed by the surrounding skin cells. Exposure to UVA (longer UV rays) causes the melanin to oxidize or darken, creating a tan.

The use of tanning lotions is an absolute necessity when using sunbeds. There are many benefits to using a tanning lotion which plays a vital role in the outcome of desired tanning results.
Using a tanning lotion while using a sunbed keeps the skin moisturized which leads to better magnification for maximum tanning results. Moisturized skin will absorb the UV light during a sunbed tanning session, helping to influence the tanning process for a faster, deeper and darker tan.
Without the use of tanning lotions, skin is dry and deflects UV rays while using a sunbed, which can make you waste up to 50% of your sunbed tanning session effectiveness. This then results in you having to tan more times to achieve your desired tanning results, which in turn costs you more money.

Here are the many benefits of using a tanning lotion:
A. Tanning lotions moisturizes your skin, which leads to better magnification of UV light for maximums sunbed tanning results.
B. Tanning lotions contain many vitamins and nutrients, along with emollient, hydrators, moisturizers and humectants to ensure that your skin will stay healthy and happy when using sunbeds.
C. Some tanning lotions contain intensifying, maximizing and bronzing ingredients, which help amplify your desired tanning results to a whole new level.
Red light at 633nm is absorbed by the mitochondria of the cell and stimulates intracellular energy transfer (ATP) production for enhanced cell vitality and permeability, increased production of new collagen, and increased turnover of collagen and elastin fibers. Laboratory studies have shown that skin cells grow 150 – 200 percent faster when exposed to certain light wavelengths, and research has shown red light delivers powerful therapeutic benefits to living tissue.
Magnetan application technology is Mystic Tan’s patented process that uses the human body’s own magnetic properties to attract Mystic Tan HD’s and Mystic Tan Kyss’ sunless tanning mist to every exposed surface of the skin. When Mystic Tan HD and Mystic Tan Kyss sunless tanning mist passes through the spray nozzles, the micro-particles of mist are polarized, taking on the characteristics of “tiny magnets.” These particles adhere evenly, and in a precise uniform amount to the exposed skin to create a smooth, even, natural-looking tan.
UVB Rays — Building Rays
UVB rays are known as the “building rays”. This specific type of short wave ray builds melanin in your skin. Melanin is what produces the natural base tan and color in humans. In short, the more melanin you have, the tanner you can become after developing a strong base tan. This base tan protects your skin from burning when you’re outside under the hot summer sun.
While UVB rays can help build your tan, UVB rays, also known as the “burn ray”, can also cause you to burn if you take on too much too soon. It is important to be patient and use those UVB rays to build up a great base tan over time.
Building up the right amount of melanin can take time, depending on your skin type and genetics, so don’t rush. Just think, while you’re piling up your melanin inventory, you’re also taking care of your vitamin D levels at the same time. If you rush your tan, you’ll end up with a burn. The best tans take time.
UVA Rays — Bronzing Rays
Once you’ve built up your base tan, use UVA rays, also known as “bronzing rays”, to bronze the melanin. You’ve built up a substantial amount of melanin, and now it is time to use it to achieve the bronze tan you’ve longed for. The UVA rays help emit pigment (color) out of the melanin you’ve generated.
UVA long wave rays are strong and penetrate the skin deeper, so you’ll only need to be exposed to the rays for a short amount of time to produce a beautiful, long-lasting golden brown tan.
Use Both UVB and UVA Tanning Beds for the Best Results
In order to achieve your desired tanning results effectively, use a combination of UVA and UVB tanning beds once you’ve developed your base tan. By mixing it up, you’ll give your skin something to respond to.
Think about it this way, if you go to the gym three times a week and complete the same cardio exercise every time, after a while your body will get used to the workout and you won’t see any results. The same goes for tanning. Using a smart combination of UVA and UVB tanning beds after completing your base tan will give you the tanning results you’ve been looking for.

Sunless spray tanning is the spray/mist application of sunless tanning solution to your body. When applied, DHA (the active ingredient in sunless tanning solution) reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden brown color. Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun or sunbeds.
If your credit card on file declines, we will do the following:
A. We will make a note in your account that your credit card has declined so that when you come in next time to tan, our employees will let you know.
B. We will put a balance due on your account for the monthly payment that could not be made due your credit card declining. You cannot tan until the balance due is paid.
C. You can pay your balance due when you come in to tan.
D. You can provide updated credit card information or you can provide a new credit card to be on file.

ACCELERATOR
An accelerator, or also called an intensifier, features ingredients known to enhance the skin’s ability to retain moisture and promote dark, long lasting color without the use of added bronzers.
NATURAL BRONZER
This technology uses natural based extracts to provide immediate color to the skin, much like a cosmetic make-up, that lasts 1 to 2 days.
DHA BRONZER
This technology uses the self-tanning agent, DHA, to increase dark color. The more DHA used, the darker the shade of brown. The color typically lasts 4 to 7 days and is seen within 2 to 4 hours after application. Wash hands after application.
MELANIN BRONZER
This technology uses self tanners based on enhancement of melanin biosynthesis. This bronzer is streak-free and does not wash off because the color is natural tan of the skin but at the darkest tone possible. These bronzers are designed to be low maintenance.
TAN EXTENDER
A tan extender is a vitamin-enriched moisturizer that enhances and prolongs your tanning results when used daily after showering/bathing and after each tanning session.

The Mystic Tan HD’s tanning mists are self-tanning formulations designed especially for use in Mystic Tan HD systems. They contain DHA, the FDA approved active ingredient that produces the long-term tan your desire. When applied, DHA reacts with the proteins in the skin’s superficial layer to form a golden brown color. Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun and sunbeds.
Mystic Tan offers several choices of tanning mist in clear formulations. If an instant tan is desired, add Mystic’s bronzer additives (single and triple bronzer boosters). These are water soluble, bronzing cosmetics that produce an instant tan. The bronzer is a temporary cosmetic color that washes off in the shower or bath without affecting your ultimate tan.

The active ingredient most often used in all sunless tanners, including tinted moisturizers, self-tanners, and spray tan solution, is called Dihydroxyacetone, or DHA. DHA is a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. The FDA added DHA to the list of approved colors for cosmetic products in the 1970s.
We do not offer refunds or store credit for any purchased tanning lotions or tanning supplies. However, please know that we offer tanning sample packets for each tanning lotion bottle we sell at The Grand Palms. You can purchase a tanning sample packet to see if you like the lotion before you purchase the full bottle.

According to the FDA, red light therapy beds, which emit red light at 633nm, has a “non-significant risk” status and is completely safe for the body, skin and eyes. Red light penetrates tissue to a depth of 8 – 10 mm, delivering energy to stimulate a response from the body to heal itself.

You can easily cancel your membership with The Grand Palms with no costs or hassles.
After your third consecutive monthly payment, you can cancel your membership. Here’s all you need to do:
A. You must go to the Grand Palms location where you purchased your membership. For your protection we do not accept cancellations over the phone or via email.
B. When you arrive at the Grand Palms location where you purchased your membership, simply let one of our Grand Palms representative know that you would like to cancel your membership, and they will have you fill out and sign a very simple form.
C. You must cancel your membership in person within 7 (seven) days before your next automatic monthly charge is scheduled to occur.
D. If you come in to cancel your membership, and your next automatic monthly charge has already occurred, we cannot give any refunds, but you will be able to continue to enjoy your unlimited tanning or unlimited sunless tanning until your current month ends.
E. We will immediately delete and properly destroy your credit card and billing information.
F. You will still be able to enjoy unlimited tanning or unlimited sunless tanning until your current month ends.
*PLEASE NOTE – When you come in to the Grand Palms to cancel your membership you will immediately lose any unused BONUS BUCKS on your account, and you will immediately lose any unused or saved Monthly Member Rewards. No. The advanced technology currently used in sunless tanning solutions is designed to ensure a natural, bronze tan. Our Grand Palms representatives will help you select the proper level of sunless tanning solution (Light, Medium or Dark) to best match your skin tone and to help you achieve the perfect tan you desire.
Red Light Therapy does not cut, burn, or break the skin as with laser treatments. Lasers use heat and concentrated light to vaporize or remove tissue. Red Light Therapy bed lamps produce no vaporization or burning of tissue, and therefore no inflammation or erythema. Red Light Therapy is one of the few non-invasive tools available that can reverse the appearance of aging skin, such as wrinkles and mottled skin tone.
While there are currently no legal minimum age restrictions in Colorado for sunbed tanning, our Grand Palms’ company policy does not permit anyone under the age of 15 from using our sunbed tanning equipment without a parent or guardian present to provide written consent and to sign our New Customer Registration Form.

A. To ensure that our employees can close the store on time, we do not allow any customer to start a sunbed, sunless or red light therapy session within 15 minutes or less before closing.
B. We do not allow a customer to start a Cocktail Tan (sunbed and sunless in one visit) within 30 minutes or less before closing.
If you cancel your membership before the minimum of 3 (three) consecutive monthly payments, here is what will happen:
A. We will convert your membership to our normal one month unlimited tanning package.
B. For each month you paid for during your membership, you will have to pay the difference from our discounted membership monthly price to our normal one month unlimited price. Here is how much you will have to pay to cancel your membership early:
C. Based on the cost matrix in Item B above, we will charge the appropriate amount to your credit card on file to cancel your membership early.
D. We will then cancel your membership and we will delete and properly destroy your credit card and billing information.
E. If your credit card on file declines, we will put a balance due on your account. You will not be able to tan until you pay your balance due.

For best sunless tanning results, you should exfoliate and shave the day before or the day of your sunless tanning session (day before is preferred). On the day of your sunless tanning session you should refrain from using moisturizers, perfumes, lotions, oils or deodorants that may create a barrier between your skin and the sunless tanning solution. You may resume using these after your first shower or bath.
A. Certain products that work well when tanning outside do not work well in the sunbeds.
B. Lotions or oils that are particularly greasy or oily will cause a film on the tanning acrylic that impairs your tanning and will damage the sunbed acrylic. *PLEASE NOTE – We do not allow any tanning oils to be used while tanning in our sunbeds. If you do use a tanning oil and damage the sunbed acrylic, you may be held liable to replace the sunbed acrylic.
C. It is also important to switch up your indoor tanning lotion to continually stimulate your skin and enhance your sunbed tanning results.

No, you can simply walk in to your favorite Grand Palms location to use our Red Light Therapy beds at your convenience.
To give the DHA enough time to fully set, it is recommended to wait a minimum of 4 hours after a sunless spray tanning session or 8 hours for optimal results. Showering sooner may diminish the intensity of the tan. If you tan using a cosmetic Bronzer, the instant color of the cosmetic Bronzer will wash off in the shower, but your tan produced by the DHA will remain.
State and federal law prohibits anyone from using sunbeds more than once within 24 hours. We have both legal and software restrictions that will not allow us to tan you again until the next day. Unfortunately, this is not something we have control over.
Keep in mind that this law applies to sunbeds only, not sunless tanning, which is why you are welcome to enjoy a COCKTAIL TAN during one visit to The Grand Palms. For more information about COCKTAIL TANNING, please CLICK HERE.
No, memberships are set up for one person only and cannot be shared. Each person who wants to become a member of The Grand Palms will need to set up their own individual account and membership to enjoy unlimited tanning, unlimited sunless tanning and unlimited Red Light Therapy. Yes, we have many clients who also tan when they come to use the Red Light Therapy beds. For best results, it is best to first use the Red Light Therapy bed, then use the sunbeds, and for those doing a Cocktail Tan, you would then use the Mystic Tan HD or VersaSpa Pro last.
Please know that we are not responsible for lost or missing items, so please be sure to take all personal belongings with you when you are done tanning. We do have a lost and found at all Grand Palms locations, so please contact the Grand Palms location you tanned at if you left anything behind.
Swimming in chlorinated water or salt water can fade your sunless spray tanning results, cause possible streaking, and will diminish the length of your tan. However, normal activities such as bathing, showering or physical activities will not affect the quality of your tan.
Yes, we provide complimentary protective eyewear for all of our customers who use our sunbeds. State and federal law both require that you wear proper protective eyewear when using a sunbed. Your eyelids are too thin to block out the UV rays, and the UV rays can penetrate a towel, which is why we provide our customers with protective eyewear for free.

No, the sunless spray tanning solution, which includes a cosmetic Bronzer, is water soluble and will be removed after the next wash in cold water. However, in some rare instances, the DHA in the sunless tanning solution may permanently stain undergarments worn during your sunless spray session.
For those clients who prefer to purchase our Tanning Points or Tanning Sessions packages versus signing up for our membership program, these packages never expire. Please ask a Grand Palms representative about our Tanning Points and Tanning Session packages.
Under state and federal law, you are not allowed to have any other person in the sunbed room with you when you are using a sunbed. This includes children. We strictly enforce these laws, and apologize for any inconvenience it may cause you.
There are few immediate changes to skin, as change occurs naturally over a period of weeks. Everyone reacts differently, depending on their age and the condition of their skin. In general, best results are achieved over an 8 – 12 week period.
It is recommended to start with a commitment of 15 minutes, which is the maximum time in our Red Light Therapy bed, at least 3-5 times per week for the first 1-4 weeks. Then you should use the Red Light Therapy bed at least 2-3 times per week for the following 4-12 weeks, and finally 1-2 times per week to maintain your desired skin results.
No. You will not get tan from our Red Light Therapy beds, nor do our Red Light Therapy beds expose you to any UV tanning rays.
Your sunless tan can last up to 7 days depending on the formulation you choose and the condition of your skin.
To ensure that our customers achieve the best sunbed tanning results possible with every visit to The Grand Palms, we automatically change our sunbed lamps at 50% of the maximum sunbed lamp life that is recommended by the sunbed lamp manufacturer. For example, some sunbed lamps that we use in our sunbeds have a 1,000 hour recommended maximum lamp life, so we change out these sunbed lamps at only 500 hours. Most tanning salons do not do this, and even the sunbed lamp manufacturers think we are crazy, but we just want to make sure that our customers are happy with their sunbed tanning results every time they come to The Grand Palms.
In addition, we ONLY use the sunbed lamps that are recommended by the sunbed manufacturer. We never use cheap, knock-off sunbed lamps.
